Practical Information
Description
Here is a Dutch catamaran built by naval architect Harm Veenema for his own use. Purchased in 2024 by the current owners for an Atlantic crossing that went perfectly, the boat is now for sale as they seek a larger multihull for a new project. It is an unconventional vessel in the best sense of the word; solidly built and described by its skipper as reasonably fast (8–15 knots), comfortable, and safe. It relies on hull lines—tank-tested for optimal performance—rather than daggerboards or keels for lateral resistance. The owner claims it sails upwind just like any fin-keel catamaran but picks up speed more quickly. The single VW Marine engine connects to hydraulically lifting drives; once raised, nothing protrudes below the waterline, resulting in weight savings and reduced wetted surface area compared to twin saildrives. Presented in excellent condition and well-equipped with comfortable living quarters, this boat would be the perfect companion for a sabbatical year or a long-distance voyage.
